Objective		Upon completing this tutorial, you will have an understanding of the range of methods in the usability toolbox and when in the project to apply each method. You will also be able to budget for a usability process and conduct cost-benefit analyses to compute the return on investment for your usability budget. Finally, you will know how to prioritize usability resources and obtain maximum effects from even small budgets for fast projects.

Course Agenda		This full-day tutorial includes lectures and break-out exercises. Most of the examples will be from websites, intranets, and web-based applications, but the usability life cycle also applies to traditional software development and consumer electronics. Outline: Introduction The usability toolbox: survey of the main usability methods The stages of the usability life cycle and when to use which method How to combine methods for maximum effect Discount usability engineering: faster methods with fewer resources Usability laboratories: whether to build one, how to test without a lab, and what's most important if you do build a lab Usability budgets Cost-benefit analysis for usability return on investment calculations Leveraging small usability teams or individual usability professionals in larger organizations

Who Should Attend		This is an ideal course for user experience professionals who are either starting a usability program in their company or who want to make an established group more effective. The course assumes basic understanding of the main principles of usability. The only prerequisite is a general understanding and familiarity with the Web, because many of the teaching examples will be drawn from websites.
