Full-day intensive workshop. Price: $9,000 (plus travel expenses) |

Objective
Visioneering, or "vision engineering," is a systematic approach to creating a three-year design direction based on long-range vision for the application, product, or site. Though the long-term outcome will almost certainly not be realized exactly as envisioned, it is important for development teams to share the same goal as they look out for factors that may require changes to the plan. The most important outcome of this workshop is not a specific vision, but participants' new-found abilities to apply a systematic approach to base future thinking and planning on user experience, not just on technology advancements or traditional requirements.

Course Agenda
Full-day, intensive, participatory workshop. Participants will spend all day generating, debating, and voting on ideas and design trends. Each participant will prepare a small presentation. The format limits this workshop to a very small number of participants (ideally 10–12). Outline:
- Exploring the future, identifying deep trends in user experience
- Reversing chronology, moving from the future to the present to explore mid-term and immediate impact of future trends on your project
- Generating concrete redesign recommendations for the next version of your own site or project
The workshop follows a 5-3-1 year inverse timeline: we start by exploring five-year trends because that's the only way to free your thinking from the limitations of your current circumstances. Your users deserve better than just a tweak of what they are getting now. The workshop ends with a draft design of what you might launch in a year. Of course, it can't be a fully specified design based on a one-day workshop, but you have the direction and trends as well as the methods for going into more detail on your own.

Who Should Attend
Intended for senior user experience professionals and internet marketing managers, participants should have a good understanding of the Web and awareness of a variety of different approaches to design. Participants must be willing to carry out a small homework assignment in advance of the workshop. This assignment can be completed in about two hours. The homework assignment will be emailed to participants approximately ten days before the event.
In addition to being a good learning experience and a good way of focusing on long-term user experience strategy, this workshop is a great team-building exercise. It is recommended that you have all the core members of your team participate since part of the value comes from having a wide diversity of job functions and skills represented at the workshop.
