Difference Between the Reports
Our other report, Beyond ALT Text: Making the Web Easy to Use for Users With Disabilities, contains 75 guidelines for user interface design of websites and intranets. It specifies how pages should work in order to be easy for users with disabilities. This report ("How to Conduct Usability Evaluations...") does not contain any design guidelines. Instead, it contains methodology advice that allows you to run your own usability tests. The methodology report enables you to go beyond our general design guidelines (that apply to all projects) and discover specific information about how your own customers or employees use your website or intranet.
Both reports are useful, and they contain totally different material.
If you don't want to test any users yourself, but simply want to make your pages as good as they can get without testing, then don't bother reading the methodology report. Instead simply use the design guidelines in Beyond ALT Text.
